The crisp fall weather is in the air, and there is no better time than now for members of the Kaneland community to fly a kite. Sugar Grove Park District presents Let’s Go Fly a Kite, a kite festival geared for the whole family, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 3 at Harter Middle School, 1601 Esker Drive, Sugar Grove. With Hot Air balloon rides from 4pm – 6pm – weather permitting.
Professional Kite Flyers from Chicago Kite will be featuring their kites and kite flying skills all day long at this free community event. The community is welcome to join in the kite flying fun in the dedicated Community Kite Flying Area where you can fly your own kites. The event includes free kites to the first 350 children courtesy of Renee Dee & Sarah Goss of Southwestern Real Estate. There will also be activities for children and families at the festival all day long, Chess tournament, Bags tournament, Parachute Play, In-line Skating Demo and open skate, Pokeman Challenge and the very anticipated 1pm Candy Drop.
“This is the first year for the event, and we hope it is something the whole community can rally around,” event planning committee member Renee Dee said. “There will be a wide range of activities, for a wide range of interests. It also promotes our great Sugar Grove Park District and gets local families and businesses involved.”
A very special highlight of the day will be the 10:00am Official Grand Opening of the Harter Community Park with ribbon cutting ceremony and community officials. Sugar Grove community is very excited about this new park area and this festival is a great way to highlight and promote the great work of the Sugar Grove Park District. There will be coffee provided by Java Plus Café and Donuts provided by Elburn Dunkin Donuts. This new park is the designated “Family Fun” area of the festival will include family entertainment and activities in and surrounding the brand new gazebo, baseball fiends and multi-purpose court area. Throughout the festival will be great food, like wood-burning pizzas and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches served with some live music! Sugar Grove Farmers market will be there all day with their vendors so you can do some local shopping as well. There will be additional features at the event for a fee some include children’s face painting, huge bounce area ($10 hour and $15 for all day bounce bracelet), and special Hot Air Balloon rides available $10 ride/person. Serena’s Song is providing FREE tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides to all persons with physical disabilities as it is wheel chair accessible, weather permitting.
