The Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau announces the CULINARY CHAMPIONS BEST DESSERT: Gaetano’s Batavia, IL and the winning dish: Millefoglie alla crema catalane con peshe!

Congratulations also to 1st Runner-up Brenda’s Frozen Custard of Sandwich for their Turtle Pie. 2nd Runner-up was Bull Moose Bar & Grille of Sandwich for their Pullman Pretzel.  “Thank you” to all of the restaurants that participated: Two Brothers Roundhouse Aurora, Oak Street Restaurant & Bar North Aurora, The Foundry Aurora, The Chocolate Shoppe Yorkville and Raimondo’s Pizza & Pub North Aurora.  All are winners in our book!

A special thanks to host judge Mayor Rick Olson and the City of Sandwich for having the competition at the historic Sandwich Opera House. Thanks also to judges Tim May of Big Rock, Jackie Milschewski of Yorkville and Chicago Hall of Fame and Food Network Star Chef Gale Gand.  Officiating the contest and announcing the winner was Lauren Robin of the Illinois Restaurant Association

The next competition is scheduled for Thursday April 16 at the Big Rock Fire Station to find the BEST EARTH-TO-TABLE. Competition will begin at 6:00 pm. 

Mayors and Village Presidents in the 10 communities comprising the Aurora Area will judge in 10 food categories.  All restaurants in Aurora, Batavia, Big Rock, Hinckley, Montgomery, North Aurora, Plano, Sandwich, Sugar Grove and Yorkville are invited to participate.  The dish to enter MUST be a regular menu item. 

The 10 CULINARY CHAMPIONS along with the 1st & 2nd runners up each month will be featured in a new travel itinerary that will be used to attract out-of-town visitors to the area to enjoy our BEST restaurants!
